Artist in a Forest

My series "Artists at Work" dates from 2012-2014. Though the paintings were not really intended to be portraits, the artists, who ranged in age from a baby to senior citizens, are quite recognizable. What interested me most was the focused attention and absorption of each individual.

This one was probably my oldest subject. We were sketching on Vancouver Island on a chilly morning. Since my friend's death, at age 95, my painting has belonged to her sons, one of whom remarked that he well knew that expression on his mother's face. It meant, "Don't disturb me. I'm busy!"

Acrylic, 2012, 20x16 ins.
