I had always wanted to go to art school, but didn't get there until 1990, when I took my first course at what was then Emily Carr College. Next term I went back for another, and then continued for 15 years, one course at a time. At first part-time students were restricted to evenings and weekends, but over the years the institution changed and evolved, and I was able to accumulate credits, and eventually to get my BFA degree, the same year that I retired from my job at Langara College.

Since 2009 I have painted at Portside Studios in East Vancouver. I paint a variety of subjects (every few years I have to have a go at abstraction, because, like Everest, it is there, and is very difficult to conquer) but am happiest with exterior scenes, plants, and animals. I have stuck to acrylics because I preferred to become proficient in one medium rather than struggle with several. Also, for better or worse, plastics are the materials of my lifetime.
