Stripes the Master

Stripes was my best-ever cat, a mischievous rascal and loving friend. I painted him preparing to sleep on my young son, some 20 years ago, calling the painting The Master. You can see which of them was the boss.

I sold the painting, but eventually its owner died and it came back to me. I was not happy with the depiction of the boy, but wanted to keep Stripes, so as the painting was on paper, I cut it in half, framed the cat, and discarded the rest. Even on paper Stripes has a commanding presence.
